Patricia P. McDougall

Patricia P. McDougallPatricia P. McDougall is the William L. Haeberle Professor of Entrepreneurship at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. She served as Associate Dean of the Kelley School from 2004-2009 and as Chair of the Management Department from 2000-2003. Dr. McDougall is a 21st Century Entrepreneurship Research Fellow and past Entrepreneurship Division Chair in the Academy of Management. She earned her doctorate in strategic management from the University of South Carolina. She teaches a course in international business at Oxford University in the summer.

Dr. McDougall has received several teaching and research recognitions, including Indiana University's Trustees' Teaching Excellence Recognition Award and the Kelley School's Full Professor Research Excellence Award. She has co-edited four books and published numerous articles which appear in a variety of academic and professional journals. Her business teaching cases appear in more than twenty-five leading textbooks, and her research has been presented in the business press, including Inc. magazine, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal.

She helped pioneer the growing field of international entrepreneurship. She and her co-author were presented the JIBS Decade Award for their 1994 article on the early internationalization of new ventures. The award is given to the article that has had the most significant impact on international business research during the past decade.

Formerly, she was a Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology where she served on the President's Executive Committee. She was co-principal investigator of two major National Science Foundation grants with the Electrical and Computer Engineering School and the Engineering Research Center. In her role as Co-Director of the Global Innovation for Engineers Program, she worked with the Engineering School to integrate international business, management and entrepreneurship into their curriculum.

Dr. McDougall has consulted on strategic management with units of The Coca-Cola Company in Germany, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Guatemala, Costa Rica and the US. She has been an active presenter and developer of executive programs for companies such as Alcoa, Anchor Industries, Ashland, Berry Plastics, BellSouth, Bosch, Boston Scientific, The Coca-Cola Company, Delta AirLines, Duke Energy, Elli Lilly, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Fifth Third Bank, Firestone, John Deere, Kimball International, Lockheed Martin, McDonald's, Nicor, Old National Bancorp, Scientific Atlanta, The Pampered Chef, USG, Vectren, and Western Union. In addition, she has assisted numerous entrepreneurial firms and several not-for-profit organizations such as The Carter Center in their strategic planning process.
