This course covers the measurement of investment risk and return, the capital asset pricing model, mutual and hedge fund performance, notions of market efficiency, and active investment management.
Class time will be used both for traditional lecture as well as the participant-based discussion of several investment cases. These methods are combined to develop a practical understanding of some of the more important financial instruments and markets.
A fundamental objective of the course is to enable students to gain a familiarity with typical investment vehicles, the strategies they employ, and ultimately the value they add.
Such skills are indispensable to investment analysis in an economic environment characterized by an unprecedented amount of financial innovation, both in the creation of new securities and in the development and evolution of financial institutions.
