This course takes a macroeconomist’s lens to the world economy. After taking this course, students will be able to better understand the U.S. and other industrial countries’ economic systems, including the terminology and theories that are used to document and explain their ups and downs.
That is, students should be able to better understand and evaluate articles they read in business periodicals like the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, the Economist, and the Financial Times. Like scientists in any discipline, economists do not fully agree on causes, consequences, and remedies to the most challenging problems.
This course focuses on these differing viewpoints as a means to better appreciate the richness of the issues as well as the uncertainty these disagreements generate for business planners. The course will provide a means to compare and contrast macroeconomic situations in Croatia with those of other countries in the region and the EU.
